Foods That Shrink Fibroids

By admin | July 18, 2011

There are a number of foods that shrink fibroids and if you are looking towards a natural solution, then your diet should play a major part.

You are probably well aware that your fibroids are unlikely to be life-threatening and I am assuming that you have had your condition checked out by your doctor. However, this does not mean that they do not threaten the quality of your everyday life! Uterine fibroids can badly impact on how you go about your day to day activities, causing discomfort and inconvenience, particularly at certain times of the month.

For most women, it can at first seem like there is no satisfactory solution. Indeed, if your symptoms are mild then doing nothing is an acceptable option as your fibroids are very likely to shrink when the menopause happens. It’s a different situation though if your fibroids are large and causing everyday discomfort and pain, not to mention incontinence and bowel problems!

Conventional treatment to reduce fibroids can be used as a temporary measure prior to surgery, but the drugs administered can have unpleasant long term side effects such as osteoporosis, menopausal hot flashes, vaginal skin-thinning and facial wrinkles. Despite all this, it is still not a long term solution and once this type of treatment is stopped, regrowth will happen.

As Well As A Fibroid Diet, Think About Other Factors

The issue with fibroids is that there can be many different contributory factors and the key to elimination is to get rid of these factors. Unfortunately, discovering just which are applicable to you can be difficult. What is known though, is that diet is a major contributory factors and can influence various aspects such as your weight, hormonal levels and general health, all of which impact on your condition.

Eating foods that shrink fibroids is one of the main components of most of the holistic plans which aim to eliminate fibroids naturally. Other aspects of treatment include liver detoxifications, the use of herbs and supplements, exercise and cleansing protocols.

Like many people, you probably already know about the type of diet which can be classed as a “good” diet and that which can be classed as “bad”. As you might expect, foods that shrink fibroids tend to fall into the “good” category.

Estrogen excess plays a big part in fibroid formation and growth and this hormone can come from various sources. Estrogen can come from our diet, particularly if we eat meats from animals which have been treated with hormones. Additionally, if we are carrying excess weight, our fat cells can become a storage point and this is a good reason to keep your intake of fats low. However, oils such as olive oil and those found in oily fish are beneficial and should be eaten in moderation a few times a week. Our liver can store estrogen mimicking compounds which originate from plastics and packaging, such as soft microwaveable food wrap, (Tip-always go for he “non-plasticiser” version or avoid it altogether!)

Looking at your diet, a good starting point is to eat plenty of organic fresh fruits and vegetables. Aim to eat a good variety of colors, as very often, the deeper the color, the richer in nutrients. Eat healthy salads which you should aim to make as colorful as possible and if you are cooking your vegetables, just lightly cook or steam. Indeed, a good rule of thumb is to ensure that your diet is made up of around 70% raw ingredients. Drinking plenty of water is also important as it can help to keep your bowels regular as well as ensuring that your internal organs are well-hydrated.

Garlic and onions have known antioxidant properties and are known for healing. You should aim to eat these daily if possible. Turmeric and cumin are also known for their anti-inflammatory properties and can help calm the inflammation which comes with fibroids.

Fiber rich foods that shrink fibroids include peas, beans and nuts as well as cruciferous vegetables such as cabbage and kale (the darker the better). Fiber can actually help to absorb and mop up impurities in our digestive systems, acting as a kind of “brush” as it passes through.

Of course, as well as eating a diet which can reduce your fibroids, it is also important to know what to avoid. Steer clear of processed meats, such as sausages and salami, and keep dairy products down to an absolute minimum. It will probably not surprise you to learn that you will need to avoid sugary foods, saturated fats, colorings, additives, salts, alcohol and refined foods such as white carbs.

Finally, do not overload your digestive system as even too many healthy foods can cause overload, contributing to imbalances which, in turn, make fibroid growth more likely. Consider incorporating foods that shrink fibroids into an overall plan for best results.
