Exercise As A Natural Fibroid Treatment

By admin | August 1, 2011

Exercise is an excellent natural fibroid treatment for more than one reason.  Of course, when you have pain and discomfort, exercise is probably one of the last things you want to do.  However, you should not use this as a reason not to exercise.  There is significant evidence to suggest that exercise really can help with a number of conditions, particularly those associated with inflammation.

As fibroids are related to inflammatory conditions, exercise can help.  Indeed, studies have indicated that women with fibroids who undertake a regular regime of exercise have less pain and symptoms than their sedentary counterparts.

People who exercise tend to feel better, have more energy and live longer.  It is difficult to ignore all the benefits and these are free and available for everyone.

Natural Fibroid Treatment Benefits

  • Weight Control-One of the factors which can influence fibroid growth is bodyweight.  This is because estrogen is stored in the body’s fat cells and the more fat cells you have, the greater your estrogen levels are likely to be.  Estrogen is highly implicated in fibroid growth and so reducing levels naturally by exercising is a positive way forward
  • Improving Your Mood-Exercise certainly makes you feel better about yourself and this is not just a “hunch”.  When we exercise, chemicals called endorphins are released into the bloodstream and these can help you feel happier and more relaxed
  • Improving Your Circulation-Improved circulation around the pelvic area can help to relieve pain and therefore in this respect, exercise is a great natural fibroid treatment.
  • Exercise To Help You Sleep-Very often, women with fibroids report that they suffer from poor sleep patterns and regular exercise can help you relax and feel sleepy.

Most forms of exercise are suitable for women with fibroids.  However, you naturally need to consider your own fitness levels and the size of your fibroids.  Your own unique situation will determine the types of exercises you are able to do, but listen to your body.  Don’t do anything which gives you pain, although you can expect to feel a little breathless and have the odd ache and pain when you have exercises long-forgotten muscle groups.  In general, lower impact forms of exercise are best.

Walking is a great natural fibroid treatment.  The speed and distance can be adapted to suit your level of fitness. In addition, it does not put any pressure directly on your abdomen.  If you haven’t exercised for a while, start off doing a few minutes a day, stopping for a rest if necessary.  Increase your distance slightly each time you walk until you have built up to doing 30 minutes of reasonably brisk walking 5 times a week.

Swimming is also beneficial.  The water is very supportive and is a particularly good natural fibroid treatment as it does not put any pressure on the abdomen and yet offers a great all-round workout. Other forms of recommended exercise as a natural fibroid treatment include Yoga and Tai Chi.
